News & Updates
I want to take this moment to thank you for the past 15 years. I grew up playing for the Pateadores throughout my high school years. I then returned in 2006 to start an expansion project into the Irvine area that ended up culminating in over 250 teams statewide. In 2010 I was promoted to be the club leader, Sr Director of Coaching. Since then we have been able to experience 5 National Titles, Four Top 5 MLS Draft Picks, and countless college scholarships. Our imprint on Southern California soccer will be felt for years. We were the first club to successfully develop a “Chapter” program in multiple cities as well as leading a movement to build the Great Park. So many nights were spent at Irvine City Hall displaying our commitment to community improvements. Financially we have reported $1 million of surplus funds at our annual AGM’s. Most impressive was our ability to give back. We started the first fully funded Girls Academy by a non profit organization. In all we provided over $4 million of academy funding and millions of chapter scholarships. There’s so much more we should all be proud of.
I have always been a believer that soccer should develop the business needs, business should not dictate soccer resources. The recent pandemic has put stress on many industries. I do not believe this is the time to experiment with financials. This is the first time in 10 years we have operated without a board approved budget or presented finances to the club through our summer AGM usually held through Zoom. In May I was asked by the Board Chairman to increase profits by $500k. This would equate to an increase of over $200 per player. That same month I suggested a 25% cut to all club payroll and variable expenses. This was ignored. A similar suggestion made in November was not welcomed. Unbeknownst to me, a sub committee had been created to decide additional financial and contractual decisions. The registration email sent in January along with continued unbudgetted spending made things evident that the club was headed in it’s own financial direction.
While we have grown away from the vision I had. I hope to return someday to build off the foundation we have created. I’d like to thank my staff pictured below and many more that helped this club reach such heights. I always believed this photo displayed a level of unity that no other club provided. I can only wish that you commit yourselves to continuing the service and value that built this institution of youth soccer.
